Blood Sugar Basics

About this site

Updated 13 August 2026

Blood Sugar Basics publishes plain-language explanations of the measurements, terms and everyday factors that come up when someone is managing or monitoring blood glucose.

The starting point for most of these articles is a gap that keeps repeating: people are handed a number — a fasting glucose, an A1C, a reading after dinner — without an explanation of what it measures, what moves it, or how much weight one result deserves. That gap is what this site tries to close.

What this site is not

This is general health information. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified clinician who knows your history.

Nothing here should be used to start, stop or change any medication. Decisions about treatment belong with the person treating you.

If you are experiencing symptoms that concern you, contact a healthcare professional. In an emergency, contact your local emergency number.
